The opening of Chapter One

The Terms and Conditions of Everything, read aloud, with the words on screen for anyone who likes to follow along, or is watching in a library. About 2 minutes, which is roughly one kettle.

About the book

Somewhere in the small print of existence, between the clause about gravity and the clause about Mondays, there is a paragraph nobody has ever read. This is the story of the person who finally reads it, and of everybody standing nearby holding a cup of tea when they do.

It is a comic novel about people and the bewildering universe they have been issued with. There is technology in it, some of it very clever, but the story is about the humans, who mostly are not.

It is out now as a free weekly podcast, a chapter at a time, so you can listen in the car and laugh at traffic lights.
